Updated Bulletin board...

My oldest son had this plain bulletin in his room for about 3 years now. We got it free off of Freecycle and it had a little bit of damage. The trim was warped a bit and there are spots of puffy water damage on the cork itself. It's not a big deal because most of the cork will be covered with pictures or certificates so you won't even see it.

It needed updating. I thought about covering it with fabric, and decided against it. I don't have any left over fabric and I didn't want to spend any money on this project.

After seeing THIS @ Searching Out Simple, I was reminded of my passion for argyle. There must be 15 pairs of argyle socks in my drawer. (Ok, so I have a little thing for socks...) Seriously, how cute is that shirt she made???!!!

We have 2 cans of paint left that I thought would be perfect for this project....Betsy Ross House Brown from our bathroom cabinets, and Garden of Paradise from our laundry room. I painted the trim brown, and then began stenciling in my diamond pattern.
After letting it dry over night, I took a black marker and drew in all the little dashes.
Once I hung it on the wall....
...it was time to start added all the boy's favorite keepsakes. He picked what he wanted and I stuck them all on there.
Just a quick and free update to give that boring bulletin board a little more personality.

  2. My husband brought home a bulletin board they were getting rid of at work and it's been sitting in my laundry room. You've motivated me to pretty it up & hang it somewhere.

Love the argyle! You must have the patience of a saint to do all of those dashed lines.

  6. Wow! That looks like it took a lot of work! But it turned out super cute!

I had a corkboard once that I tried to think of a way to embellish it, and since I couldn't, I just got rid of it. Now I'll always regret not keeping it and doing this!

Oh, and thanks for visiting my site and leaving your sweet comment! Feel free to come back often!
