Camper updates

There were a few things that I wanted to get started on immediately. The first thing was the curtains. Those had to go!

This is what she looked like....

So while Lucy has good bones, she needs some freshening up. The existing curtains were polka dot, flowers, and some weird solid neon greenish yellow color. Um, no. That is not going to work for me.

Originally I thought, aqua and red...maybe cherries. But I didn't like any of the cherry fabric I saw.....

So I feel in love with these two fabrics...

Once I saw them both in the camper, it was the birds all the way. It wasn't too busy, had a vintage feel, and had a variety of colors that I could build off of for recovering the cushions and all.

I ran back to Hobby Lobby and spent $22 on a few yards of fabric and got to work. I'll need to go back later and get some more to address the bathroom and the extra hammock space that is sitting over the back window in the little cubby.

I love how it turned out though. LOVE it.

Originally, I thought about painting the brown oven/stove, but the more I look at it with the new fabric, the more I like it. It can always be changed later on.

Still left on the list:
*recover the cushions
*add a vintage clock
*add some vintage dish towels
*find a Scotty badge to install on the outside
*update the bathroom stall (I say that because it is literally a closet with a toilet and a shower head)
*add a colorful bunting
*make 4 small pillows
*hang some hooks and decor

and figure out where to put it at our house. We are going to movie it into the backyard and I am thinking we will either put it along the side of the house or on the concrete in the backyard. We shall see.

I got a vintage camper!!!!!

Wow! My husband finally managed to surprise me. I am notoriously difficult to surprise, but it finally happened.

I must admit, that I was being a jerk. My husband has been spending a ton of time away from the family hanging out with his friend. Now I really like his friend, and they have fun together, and they help each other out a lot. Josh and I don't usually fight about the normal things that couples fight about. WE have those under control. But, he is a workaholic, and we always argue that he is not spending enough time with me and the kids. He either doesn't take off time from work to spend with us, or if he does, it's to be gone with someone else. Well, anyway, he had been off work for 5 days in a row and 4 of those days he had been out with his friend. I just wanted him to understand the need for balance. You have to spend time with us too.

So we had argued a lot last week. Then he did what he normally does when I get grumpy about not spending time, he took me out. We went to Houston. And when we came back, he went right back to his friend.....every day. By this point I was getting really irritated. Not at his friend, but at the amount of time he was gone. I say all this to say...I was really mad...I was picking fights with him, griping, and then giving him the silent treatment. By Wednesday, I had had enough. We fought that morning and I told him I was done begging him for his time and I was just going to do my own damn thing.

For some reason that afternoon, after I had been running a million errands, trying to coordinate all the kids things, and taking my drugged mom to have dental surgery, he had been blowing up my phone. Asking me where I was, what I was doing, when I was going to be home, being really nice....and I was irritated and felt like he was checking up on me for some unknown reason. I actually hung up on him.

So after school, I had to hunt down Jansen because he had to stay for music practice, and I was just exhausted. I hadn't showered, I was going non stop, I had no makeup on, and I just wanted to be left alone and to go to bed.

As I turned onto my street, I see a precious, tiny vintage camper in my front yard with Josh, his friend, and his wife sitting under the awning on a bench.

Then I felt like a total a-hole. Honestly...that's the most appropriate description for it.

Evidently...yes, he had been spending a lot of time with his friend, but a lot of that time was spent searching for a camper to purchase for me as a surprise. The three of them had been working on it for 2 weeks. The hubs said he knew the only way he could pull off the surprise and have me leave him alone enough to get it done was for me to be mad at him. I know this is his way of making things up to me. This is his MO...when I am upset, he buys me something to try to smooth it over. It works for a while.

But this is huge!!!!! I have been wanting one for years and years and they are very hard to come by. Especially one that is in good enough condition to go out now, but still needs a bit of work to make it my own. They did so good!!!

So here she is...Josh already named her Lucy...1963 Scotty camper. I love her!!!!!! 1963 is like my favorite year too...it was almost too perfect!

There she is folks....10 feet of my very own space. Space to decorate how I want...to use how I want....to go somewhere alone or with friends. Such joy!

I'm back!

Nursing school is finally over for the semester and I graduate in 5 months! FIVE MONTHS Y'ALL!!! I'm finally going to be a Registered Nurse soon. Next semester we will only be precepting so this was the final coursework semester of nursing school. What began in 2012 is finally ending in 5 months in 2016. YEAH!!!!

Anyway, here is a fast look back at the past 6 weeks for us:

Halloween was in the house...but it thunderstormed the entire time. Caleb made his and Jansen's Five Nights At Freddy's costumes and they got to wear them briefly.

We set up our canopy in the front yard and handed out candy to the 200 or so die hard trick-or-treaters that braved the crazy weather.

Then we ended up staying in and having our own little Halloween party, just the 4 of us.

I helped my mom fix her wig for a costume party she and my dad were going to...and she won best costume!

Vivian celebrated her 10th doggie birthday with us. Sweet poodle face.

My mom and I went to the Nutcracker Market (first time ever for me) and stayed the weekend in Houston together to shop. We had a great time and I got some awesome goodies.

I finished my final SIM lab in nursing school and I had the bubble guts....

We had a Thanksgiving lunch at school and had so so so much food!

Thanksgiving break hit and I got do spend time with my family! The first thing I was able to go to was Breakfast with Mom at my boys' school. Fun times!!!

My mom and I went to the Mums and Mistletoe Market and I actually won a raffle prize! Once we arrived, I saw this metal JOY sign that would look amazing on my front porch. If it was still there when we finished looking inside, I was going to buy it. As soon as we got inside, mom and I bought some raffle tickets, knowing full well that I never win anything. After spending $2 and 30 minutes later, I heard my name called over the loud speaker for a raffle prize. When I went to pick it up...it was the JOY sign I wanted! How cool is that?! I love it.

I had a girls night out with some friends

We bought Caleb a Privacy Pop tent for his bed in hopes that he would stop coming into his brother's room at night to "sleep" on his floor. He loves it and he is sleeping all night in it. That is an amazing accomplishment for Caleb!

My classmates and I attempted to work a booth at our Festival of Lights to help recruit students into our nursing program, but a storm blew through so quickly and strongly that we bailed on it.

We had to purchase a new Christmas tree this year. Josh wanted a skinny, 9 ft tall tree with multi colored LED lights. I wanted a full, 7 foot tree with white lights. We found the perfect compromise on a medium fluff, 7.5 foot tree with LED lights that can switch from white to multi colored lights.

Then it was time to get started on the decorating...yes even before Thanksgiving.

My Aggies played their final regular season football game of the year.

We adopted a little girl from the Salvation Army tree and all she asked for was a tennis racket, bows, and a purse. We picked a teenager because that age group often gets overlooked. I hope she likes everything!

Thanksgiving day rolled around and I taught Jansen how to make broccoli and rice casserole. He pretty much did everything but put it in the oven. He also wanted to make a cheese plate, so we googled fun ideas and he put this together. His smile is the best!

He and Pops didn't make it very long after lunch....

The hubs decorated the house and it turned out amazing! I love that it looks like a gingerbread house...and the pictures just don't do it justice!

Then out of the blue...we bought a Texans golf cart. Merry Christmas to us!

I finished up finals and Josh and I celebrated with a night out. Who doesn't love the Palm?!

Then we went to an Ugly Sweater Party....and although my sweater was too big, it was definitely not ugly. Golden Girls forever!

It was a very busy 6 weeks. Now I look forward to spending time with family and friends and getting ready for the holidays. We are hosting the Powell Family at our house this year. I can't wait!
