What I wore Wednesday...

Well, I haven't blogged because since last Thursday, I have been off and on sick. Like bad one day, great the next...hour by hour...Needless to say, a few of those days I stayed in yoga pants. I showered...but didn't get dressed. Oh well.

I am currently the Vice President of the PTO at my boys' school, and will be President next year so we are in a transitional place right now. We are getting new volunteers to fill in spots for people not returning and it is really rough keeping the ball rolling. This week, I have been up at the school with a new girl, working on Accelerated Reader prize delivery. It was craziness. We ran out of almost everything....

Needless to say, I have been so caught up with that for the past three days, I didn't take a picture of my clothing. But I assure you...I was dressed stylishly ;)

So two pictures for this week....and Hopefully next time I will make it the whole week getting dressed.

Homemade flower hair pin....

I adore all of the cute hair embellishments out there in blog land. And while I am sewing impaired and don't really have the desire to learn, I am a whiz with a glue gun. That's right...I said it.

I have dreams of rosette hairbands, flower clips, etc...I can't spend any money on that right now. But I realized that I have everything I need here to make a really basic floral bobby pin. Here are the two I came up with tonight.

So here is the step-by-step of the totally easiest floral bobby pin in the world.
You will need:

• floral petals
• glue gun
• bobby pins
• tiny pieces of fabric (felt works really well, but I didn't have any)
• various beads and shiny thingies :)

First take several petals off of the stem. I took off the little plastic pieces in the middle as well.

Cut a small piece of fabric...about this size.

Dab a little hot glue on the fabric and attach the bobby pin.

While that dries, start stacking your petals together however is pleasing to you, carefully glueing the centers together.

Experiment with what you want to go into the center. I several single earrings that have lost their mate, and just detached them from the earring back.

I chose the first and second...they were cute. Then glue it to the center.

While that dries, cut another strip of fabric a little bit longer than the first one, and glue it to the backside of the flower.

Attach the two pieces of fabric together...and you are done.


Here is how it looks in my hair. No I did not fix my hair today, so it is just pulled back in a messy ponytail...but you get the idea.

Cuteness. Freeness. I am ready to make more with some other types of flowers and bead I have around the house!

Packing...

While the kids are at the community college enjoying their last Saturday of their enrichment program, I am at home working on laundry and packing for our camping trip on Friday.

That's right folks!!! The four of us are headed to see Yogi Bear and spend some time at Jellystone Park Campgrounds in Waller.

The camp has a really cool schedule for that week as the theme is Outdoor Games. Here's what is in store for us next weekend:

We also plan on going to the water park, riding around in the golf cart, spending some time in the arcade, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows outside the cabin...

The boys are very excited.

I have my packing spreadsheet out, the boys suitcases half packed, laundry swirling peacefully in the dryer, and grocery list in the making. We have to provide our own towels, linens, and food, so we are going to stock the car with whatever will fit. You have to have options right??

Lego invitations...

Today I started experimenting with making lego invitations. I decided not to purchase the super cute ones from the stationary store, and decided to make them as simple as possible. We already have envelopes and a ton of Forever stamps, so I definitely wanted to make these for El Free...

This was free and works for me. Awe, snaps for rhyming :)

Thrift store goodness...(and a what I wore Wednesday)

Since I have lost some weight and had a little cosmetic surgery....not many of my clothes fit anymore. Before Christmas, I went out and purchased a handful of jeans and long sleeved shirts. But now that Spring is in full swing in South Texas, short sleeves and shorts/capris are needed. I have one pair of shorts and NO capris....and a camping trip in a week and a half.

Today I made a quick trip to our local thrift store. Now, I love this place. Really, I do...but it is truly hit and miss. Usually, I can find something 2 out of the 5 times I go there and today was one of those 2 times :)

I left the store with three shirts, a pair of capris, and a necklace for $15!!

A Covington ruffle, sleeveless blouse for $3. I *heart* polka dots...

And this cutie patootie necklace for a whopping $1

Now I have some things that I can wear camping, and a cute blouse for date night, and I didn't break the bank!!!!

And finally, I have seen tons of bloggers who participate in the What I Wore Wednesday challenge each week. I and going to start it as well....but next week. Basically each Wednesday, I will post a blog with pictures of each outfit that I wore that week. Hopefully, this will motivate me to achieve one of my goals of getting fully dressed every day. Too often, I find myself cooking dinner in my pj's at 5:30 in the evening. I am sure the hubs doesn't want to come home and see me slumming it over a hot stove.

So for today, I will post a picture of what I wore today, and next Wednesday will have Thursday through Tuesday. Without further ado...today's attire...

Lego man door hangers....

I made several of these Lego men to hang on our doors for Jansen's birthday party in May. Seriously, this house will be covered in Lego decor.

I don't care :) This will be Jansen's first party at our home with kids from his class, so whatever I can make....I will make.

We are still collecting lego pieces for the balloon weights. I have three completed and will probably do 2 more. Left on the list to be made: invitations (on the super cheap) and goodie bags with goodies.

My oldest's birthday is this month and it was his choice to have his party at the bowling alley. Cool with me...but now that he sees the decorations for his brother's party...he wants a banner of his own. The bowling alley does all their own decorations and food, but I am making the cake, and I guess now I will be making a bowling banner :)

Donation from an angel!!!! For real....

A little over a month ago, this disaster happened....


This was my absolute favorite pair of shoes that my mom purchased for me for my 30th birthday. We had seen them in a store...discontinued style, and the last pair they had, and it was in my size!!! I begged my mom to buy them for my birthday, and I knew she did, but I had to act really surprised to open them....


Anyway, after almost a year of wear, my oldest son had left out a a monster truck in the dark hallway. And I tripped over it and broke my favorite Yellow Box shoes!!!!!! I was totally devestated, and went running to my husband. We started looking online to find either a shoe repair or another pair of these shoes. But since they are discontinued, I couldn't find them...even on ebay. So they have been sitting in my closet waiting for me to take them for repair.

Fast forward to this weekend. My cousin called to say her mother was cleaning out her shoe closet and wanted to know what size shoe I wore, since she knows how much I love shoes. I told her 7.5 to 8...and she said she would drop them off at my mom's house. As we were running out the door yesterday for piano lessons, my mother dropped off the box.

She said they didn't want the shoes back, to take what I wanted and pass on the rest. When we got home, I went through the box.

And the clouds parted, and light shone down on the top of the box....for what did appear???? The same Yellow Box shoes I had broken, just in gold and silver!! TWO PAIR!!!!! I did a happy dance of joy!!!!

I was able to wear 7 pair of shoes. SEVEN PAIR FOR FREE!!!!





There are about 4 pair left that I will be offering to freecycle to see if anyone can wear them or wants them. Thank you to Judy for donating them and to Kristi for sending some my way!!!
