Museum trip....

Now it is Wednesday night, and we are already looking forward to school on Monday. Caleb has Autism and craves the routine that school gives him. As much routine as I provide, somehow I cannot compare to school. He loves it, and I love that he loves it.

This morning the boys and I took a trip to our local museum. The boys really enjoyed it and were both really interested in reading all the information cards that went along with each artifact. Here are a few pics of my guys...

Free chair!!!!

A little while ago, I bought a small desk from a guy on Craigslist to refinish and put in my youngest son's room. This desk didn't come with a chair, and thus finding one was on my list of things to buy.

We have been looking for one ever since then, but haven't found anything that really caught our eye. Until today....

The boys and I were on our way to the museum and as we drove out of our subdivision, we saw a table and four chairs by the curb.
So of course, I made a u-turn and pulled over. Each chair was broken except for one, so I threw it in my Pilot and we sped off. We made a quick stop at Hobby Lobby to pick out Jansen's choice of fabric. He chose this...


I wanted to get a primary color stripe or a dark denim, but he just had to have this. And it is his, so he should at least get to chose what he wants.

When I got this chair home, I noticed that it had a few imperfections on the black metal. Jansen wanted to keep it black, so I just colored in the imperfections with a black sharpie marker.

Then I took off the cushion and noticed that there were three coverings on this seat.


The most recent cover was just tacked on without unscrewing it, so it was just hanging there.

So I unscrewed it, ripped off the two layers and was left with this....


No wonder they tried to cover it so many times. Ugh. So I stapled the Texans fabric to the seat, and screwed it back to the chair. The chair fits the desk perfectly and I don't even care that it is black and the desk is brown. Jansen didn't want to paint it, although I have plenty of spray paint in the garage.




Woohoo! He has a chair, and it was under $10!

Sisal Monogram

So I have been seeing monograms everywhere. From moss to twine, book pages to paint, they are everywhere in all styles.

Ok, I know I can make one too.

I cut out the letter "P" out of cardboard that we had lying around in the garage.


Then I wrapped it in sisal twine that I bought a while ago at Lowes


Next I found some random fabric and made a few little rosettes and hot glued those bad boys to the "P".


Now it sits in our corner shelving in the dining room for now. I was thinking of hanging it in the middle of our front door wreath, and still may do that....


Mark this off my list of crafts I wanted to try :)

Glitter sock turned headband....

You know you have a gazillion of those single socks just tumbling in your dryer. I know it can't just be me.

This lone, black glitter sock just killed me. I mean, I love socks. Socks are love. And this pair was awesome. Alas, this pair has become a singleton, and now it has become a headband.

Ok, so yes...hair do-dads have quickly become my new obsession. I don't apologize....accessories are love too!

Adventures in Jellystone

Great trip. Way worth it! Would totally bring more stuff....bikes, scooters, Jansen's nebulizer, ipod, kites, fishing poles. We are definitely going back!

Rosette hairclip...

I was cleaning out a couple of my bathroom drawers today and found a metal hair clip that used to have something glued to it. I can't really remember what it was, but now it doesn't even matter. It needs something.

I have been wanting to get some cute hair pins, clips, and headbands but they can be so darn expensive. There are many that I could probably make just using things I have in my house.

So today, it was time to make rosettes. I had a shirt that no longer fits, but has a really pretty color scheme, so I cut a few strips and made some quick rosettes. Here is what I made for today...

I like the three different sizes. But I have another bit of fabric in a different color, that I will make into a clip with three rosettes of the same size and pearls in the center. But since we are leaving for Jellystone tomorrow...that will have to wait until next week.

Centerpiece additions...

My absolute FAVORITE flower is the hydrangea...in every color. I am so not picky.

Years ago, I bought this cute little green hydrangea plant on clearance at Target.

I have used it in various places all over my house. For the most part, it has stayed as my centerpiece on our dining room table.

Now that things are starting to warm up, Spring is right around the corner and I just wanted to add another layer of color to it. Just Spring it up a little.

My youngest son had given me a bunch of pink hydrangea he found somewhere (yikes, where did they come from???) and earlier this week, I used a few of the petals to make a couple hair pins.

Then I just used the leftovers to add a little POP of color to my green hydrangea plant.

It just added some fullness and that extra little touch of Spring to my dining room. (for free)Super cute. :)
